The Wall Street Journal reported that this year's flu vaccine has been more effective than in past years, but there has also been there have also been more deaths than usual from the milder strain. With influenza activity increasing and expected to climb for several more weeks, it's important to know what's going around your area. Right now AdventHealth Centra Care doctors are seeing an increase of up to 900% in some Florida cities.

It's not too late to get your flu vaccine. People who have not yet been vaccinated for the 2018-19 season should do so as soon as possible. These vaccines are safe and are the best way to protect yourself and your loved ones from influenza and its potentially severe complications.

In addition to the vaccine, there are a few things that AdventHealth Centra Care physicians recommend:

  • Wash your hands with soap and water
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth
  • If you do get sick, stay home until you are fever-free for at least 24 hours

Only a doctor can determine if you or your child has the flu, so go to your nearest AdventHealth Centra Care if you suspect your child has been infected.
