Q:Question: What is the treatment for the flu?
A:Answer:If your flu test is positive, a provider may prescribe an antiviral flu medication, which can help ease symptoms and shorten the duration of your illness when treatment starts early.
Your provider may also recommend rest, fluids and over-the-counter medications for fever and body aches and can talk with you about which options fit your health history.
If your clinician prescribes an antiviral flu medication, our Florida locations offer onsite medication dispensing so you can fill your prescription before you leave. At our Kansas and North Carolina locations, your provider can send the prescription to your preferred pharmacy.
-
Q:Question: What are the benefits of getting flu treatment?
A:Answer:Starting flu treatment within 48 hours of feeling sick can help ease symptoms, shorten how long they last and lower the chance of complications for some patients. Your clinician can explain what treatment may do in your situation, based on your symptoms and your health history.
-
Q:Question: Is there flu treatment for pregnant women?
A:Answer:Yes. Pregnancy can raise the risk of severe illness and complications from the flu, so being evaluated promptly matters. A provider can review your symptoms along with your pregnancy and recommend an antiviral flu medication or other treatment when it is medically appropriate.
-
Q:Question: What’s the difference between flu treatment for kids and flu treatment for adults?
A:Answer:The general approach is the same for children and adults: a physician or advanced practice provider will evaluate symptoms, may prescribe an antiviral flu medication and can recommend rest, fluids and over-the-counter medications to manage fever and discomfort. What differs is the specifics, since a child's age, weight and health history shape what a provider recommends. At AdventHealth Centra Care, we treat patients of all ages. We also have two dedicated pediatric urgent care clinics in Florida.
